Hopetoun Tea Room - Classic English High Tea

Once you've entered the Block Arcade, you'll be captivated by the classic Victorian interior and colourful mosiac tiles. There's always a pleasant sense of old charm surrounding the place. This sense gets stronger as you stroll towards the Collins street side of the Block Arcade where Hopetoun Tea Room is located since 1891.

Hopetoun is a small tea room filled with character. The green wallpaper with Art Nouveau motives, the simple black & white menu, even the manners of the waiting staff bring you back to the late 19th century.

My all time favorites are the delightful pinwheels and old school classic - refreshing cucumber ribbon sandwiches. But...in order to feel like royalties, you have got to treat yourself to Hopetoun's famous 3-tiers high tea!

The Hopetoun high tea begins with a generous bottom tier filled with savoury quiche, ribbon sandwiches (don't miss the smoked salmon ribbon, it's absolutely divine!) and pinwheels. Then slowly indulge your taste buds in the petite fours tier and finish off with seasonal fruits. The loose leaf Earl Grey tea they serve at Hopetoun balances all the different tastes of the high tea.

I usually drop by Hopetoun to chill out and unwind after a mad shopping trip around Bourke or Collins street.

Seeker says : Reserve your seats for high tea, it's really popular even on weekdays.
